As a 'desk jockey' with zero engineering knowledge, stepping into the world of hydraulic sales has left me feeling overwhelmed. Getting the opportunity to study with the BFPA and Richard Dobbs has been truly inspiring. I've been able to learn the theory behind safe fluid power operation, hydraulic components and systems, the mathematics behind flow, pressure and getting the system going. Richard has presented everything with a smile, he's been patient, concise and nothing was too much for him to explain in more detail. The level one course is a broad stroke overview, but there was plenty of meat to delve into. The course materials are expansive, meaning that I can read more in my own time and take the theory with me on my next steps. The course has filled in gaps in theory from my 'on the job' training and I now feel better informed to service my customers’ needs and enquiries! I'm looking forward to Level Two!

I am at the beginning of my hydraulic career and my knowledge was basic. So, I was very excited when Richard came to teach us Stage 1 hydraulics. Richard was Professional, Friendly, Clear & Precise, and most importantly made learning fun. We had a group with different experience (office & factory). He took his time to make sure that nobody was left behind and that we were all understanding each section. This was done by using our interests or history that he had learned, to then teach us. All while maintaining a fun and easy to learn environment. Most importantly he used his own experiences of working in the industry to help us in theory and practical. For me this was most important he was able to simplify it for everyone, using different scenarios in a multitude of different ways that each person would then understand. He was approachable and understanding to each person’s questions and level of understanding that every person was comfortable to ask him questions. There was a clear structure, and we all knew what was planned for each day and what was expected of us all. It was a very respectful learning environment. For me a lot of things have clicked into place, I am more confident in my own hydraulic knowledge and In turn delivering a better experience to customers daily. I have worked with a lot of trainers in my career (other Industries) and Richard Is one of the absolute best!

Richard’s background comprising of both hands-on and design work was evident in his delivery of the training material. I found the training very beneficial to my current role and gave insights into areas I had less experience with. His expertise in the field and enthusiasm for teaching made for a good training experience, and I would recommend his courses.

A clear and well laid out practical test rig was utilised to actively enforce theoretical skills were understood. I really enjoyed learning new things and discovering a deeper understanding of previous knowledge.
